Presentation: Executive Functioning Essentials
Recorded May 23, 2025
Hosted by Autism Society Alberta’s Indigenous Relations Circle
Presented by Tanya Keto, Registered Psychologist #6405
Executive Functioning (EF) refers to the brain’s behaviour management system. EF’s cognitive processes tell us what to do, when and how well. People with Learning Disabilities, (like Dyslexia), and/or Neurobiological Disorders, (like ADHD), may have difficulty developing and accessing these functions, compared to neurotypical same-aged peers.
A lack of EF may create lack of motivation and social skills, resulting in low grades, school avoidance, anxiety and stress. But these so-called problem behaviours are simply symptoms of a child’s unmet needs.
Check out Tanya’s presentation to learn how Executive Functioning relates to behaviour, as well as ways you can support EF, with Tanya’s presentation.
